 Renae Maihi to Berlinale Talents 2024

January 19th 2024

From a record number of 3,832 applications from 131 countries, writer / director Renae Maihi has accepted a coveted spot for the prestigious Berlinale Talents 2024 which runs alongside the A-list Berlinale Film Festival.

 

As the only Aotearoa, New Zealand filmmaker and the sole Indigenous participant, Renae will be working hard to network throughout the festival and represent Māori and Indigenous filmmakers in this space.

 

This years Berlinale Talents cohort are united by the fact that they already have around ten years of professional experience, have presented their work at international festivals or have worked on well-known projects or initiated them themselves in their up-and-coming film companies. 

 

Renae will attend the Berlin, Germany based film mecca from February 14th - 23rd 2024.  Her management 5XMedia will also be present at the festival. For any enquiries feel free to make contact via this websites 'Contact' page or directly with her management.

Top Hollywood Development Executive
Working with Renae Maihi

June 2023

Garrick Dion, known as one of Hollywoods top Development Executives is working with Renae Maihi on her spiritual horror film The Tohunga: Origin. Originally developed from concept stage with celebrated Story Consultant Karel Segers, this never-before-seen genre film aiming for box office appeal is benefitting from global support. 

 

Matched by talented manager Seth Nagel, Garrick is best known for producing films such as Nicolas Winding Refn's film 'Drive' starring Ryan Gosling, the eerie film Nightcrawler starring Jake Gyllenhaal which was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2015 Oscars, as well as multi-Academy Award nominated film Whiplash. 

Renae and Garrick have been busy developing this genre film that promises to be something different but with the familiarity that horror audiences love.

There is Light WRAPS in Toronto

October 2023

There is Light, an original film written and directed by Judith Schuyler with Renae Maihi co-writing and taking lead in Producing alongside emerging talent Shareph Breakwell, has just wrapped principle photography in Toronto. 

A long held vision of Judith's, this complex VFX film took a crew of 40 to get it to the production finish line. With celebrated Canadian Director of Photography Michel St Martin collaborating with Director Judith, magic was captured on set.

Presently in post production in New Zealand, with exceptional Indigenous co-owned VFX company Mixed Creatives in Vancouver handling the VFX elements, this international Indigenous co-production is aiming for a late 2024 early 2025 premiere.
